I would like to introduce you to the gourd as a creation of fine art. The gourd is an organic vessel of endless creative possibilities. It can be carved or wood-burned like wood, painted and dyed with an assortment of mediums like on a canvas. It can be embellished with precious stones, beads, feather, leather, found objects, clay, fiber & pine needles to name a few. It can be cut and sculptured into other shapes. My art takes on the natural form of the gourd that then becomes intertwined with other components.

 

I became interested in gourds after encountering various art pieces in Northern California in 2002. Drawing from my background of collecting Native American art I am able to create a broad spectrum of artistic interpretations from indigenous cultures to highly contemporary motifs.

 

Initially self-taught through the use of instructional books and videos, I have continually added to my skills and knowledge by seeking out classes from some of the best in the field of both gourd art and other mediums. The composite of all these experiences is evident in my unique vision and attention to detail.

 

I am proud to offer this distinct art form from such a natural medium from my studio in Mancos, Colorado.
